Private and government schools cannot deny admission to a student in Class XI if he or she fails to secure cut-off marks prescribed by the school in Class X exams, the Supreme Court has ruled. Asking the schools to share the burden of a student’s poor performance in Class X boards, a bench headed by Justice RV Raveendran made it clear that all students who clear their exams should be promoted to the senior class, irrespective of the final marks

6th Pay Commision recommendations has been approved by Union cabinet of India. The recommendations of 6th pay commission will increase the salary of around 5.4 million central government employees. The revised pay scale would be effective from 01/01/2006.The revised hike will hit central budget of FY09 to the tune of 15,717 crore and Railway Budget by 6414 crore. The average hike for central government is around 21%.The sixth Pay Commission pay hike will be paid in cash in two installments- 40% will be paid in FY 2008-2009 and 60% in next financial year.

The Manmohan Singh government may survive a vote of trust in the lower house of parliament, despite withdrawal of support by the Left parties and the BSP, provided that the Samajwadi Party - with which the Congress is flirting - and smaller regional parties agree to bail it out.
